Artist: The Eagles
Song Title: The Long Run
Heard On: Nova
Rating: 6
Okay, so you figured it out - i am listening to classic rock tonight. Having lived through classic rock when it was just album rock (we thought we were so much better than pop or top 40), I will say that I have heard this song way too many times. It was okay when it was new - and the Eagles were extremely popular when this song was out. They could do nothing wrong at that point.
I wonder what it is about certain groups that I no longer can stand listening to. I have a couple Eagles vinyl albums and perhaps one CD. But, i would never look through my record collection and think - "I gotta play some Eagles." I don't think I have intentionally played them since 1988.
But, what about Led Zeppelin? Sure, I will pull out a Led Zep album now and again. Not monthly, but perhaps quarterly or a couple times a year. Even though their music was played into the ground, probably more than the Eagles, I still listen to them with some enjoyment. I guess it just comes down to taste and tolerance.
This is why I crave new music. A must have. I go through my living in the past and do listen to classic rock occasionally, but generally I am tuned into XMU on XM, Lucy or Fred for Alternative, WOXY.com or Groove Salad at soma.fm. I just can't stand to listen to old rock music too much anymore.
What gets me is people who listen to 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s music or mix music endlessly. Do their brains not crave something different? Or do they just get caught up and stuck in one time period or settle for mediocre pop crap? I don't know - but it sure seems like most people listen to the same old stuff for life. There's just too much out there to settle for the same thing over and over and over and over. Occasional forays into the past is one thing, but all the time. Yukh!
